Volunteering at Happy Dog Ranch

Caring for the needs of 42+ horses plus other farm animals is an enormous job, one that Happy Dog Ranch couldn’t accomplish without the help of volunteers.  And as a nonprofit, we appreciate, depend on,  and are grateful for all our wonderful volunteers who become part of the family. 
Each day our volunteers assist staff with a wide variety of chores, including:

• Mucking stalls, runs, and pens
• Grooming and walking horses
• Help with feeding and watering

All volunteers are provided with an orientation and are assigned a senior volunteer mentor to ensure responsibilities assigned are according to your level of experience. Volunteers are also offered continuing education opportunities, such as groundwork lessons and workshop/clinic participation, to grow in their abilities.  Volunteers are also offered discounts to specific events and merchandise.  HDR does not offer riding lessons.
All HDR volunteers must complete and submit a volunteer form and a liability waiver. 

At Happy Dog Ranch we practice a whole horse, whole person philosophy, and we ask all of our 
volunteers to--

• Use connection and energy with our horses, rather than force, pain, or 

          intimidation.

• Respect the wisdom of our horses and listen carefully to what they are 

          telling us.

• Take responsibility when difficulties arise (not blaming).
• Earn the role of leader through trust and consistency.
